Night Owl Seeks Reform

I have a confession to make! I've been staying up WAY too late for WAY too long now. I am working on several projects which require solitude so I can write among other things and the only time I can really get that is at night. All this burning the candle at both ends is too much and it's starting to catch up with me. The longer I stay in my late night pattern the more ingrained my night owl tendencies become and they are getting worse. I am naturally a "night" person and the problem is I don't want to be anymore. I want to be able to fall asleep before 1am. I want to be reformed!

Have any of you out there successfully made the switch from being a night owl to waking up and hour and a half hour earlier? (That is my goal ) Any tips for a person like myself?

I have the same problem. I am not a morning person. Sorry I can not help you there.

I had to reform a few years ago. Honestly, the only thing I can suggest is to just set your alarm for an hour and half earlier. Then FORCE yourself (setting the coffee maker to go off always helps me) to crawl out of bed. It stinks for a few days as you adjust but soon, by 10 pm you'll be exhausted :) I'm a true success story--couldn't get out of bed until 9, and now I get up at 5 (most of the time). Sorry, I don't have a magic cure!

Well I was hoping there was a magic cure because I've been getting up at 7:30 with the kids but that leaves me no time to do my quiet time by myself and it just isn't the same with kids running around. Let's just say my attention isn't undivided! That hour and a half is a REAL battle for my flesh and I have been discouraged over my lack of discipline!! I don't drink coffee (except as a treat) because I am really sensitive to caffeine and my heart will begin to race if I have too much. If I could drink it I think I'd be drinking a whole pot to get me going!!

Since I've had kids I just can't stay up like I used to. In my younger days I could stay up until 1, 2, 3 in the morning and be back up by 6! I'm not sure how I ever did it. These days I'm in bed around 10:30 or so and then up at 7 or a little before.

There's not a whole lot I can suggest though. Watching TV always makes me fall asleep for some reason but it wakes Jeff up so I can't watch in the bedroom. There are times I sleep on the couch all night long :o) Oh well.

I sure hope you can get some sleep and some well needed quiet time soon. Sounds like you're getting worn down! You'll have to let us know what you come up with.

Whoops... it looks like Jeff was commenting on your blog. It's really me, Stacey! Sorry about that :o)

hey Jen, I wish I was a morning person. I'm not. I agree with Apryl, set the alarm and make is a discipline to get out of bed before the little ones... ugh, I know it's so hard.
Think of this times as a date with God

I like the magic cure idea. Too bad no one seems to have one. :( I too am a night owl and so not a morning person (just ask Gabe, the ultimate morning person). I have been since I was little, so I figure I'm not going to change. I do have the goal to get up a half an hour earlier to have some quiet time before the kids get up. I haven't made me goal yet. How is the reformation going for you?

With Love,
